Hey lovely people!
A little update from Travel Kids Club HQ….
The last couple of weeks have been intense to say the least!
Website Alchemy Start Up
Until this project is financially viable it is being funded in part by membership fees, in part by some kind donations and for the most part with the money we earn building websites at Website Alchemy.
We started Website Alchemy 2 months ago to fund Travel Kids Club and it has gone off like a rocket! We have had some really wonderful people out there sharing our work. As a result we have had really amazing and interesting customers coming thick and fast.
This all came to a head about 2 weeks ago. We had a lot of things to finish, then John was asked to speak at a charity fundraiser, and we had our deadlines for getting the September package out… eeek!
If everything had gone to plan it would have been a busy couple of weeks, but manageable. But of course nothing went to plan!
Then we were invited to speak on a talk show here in Ireland. This was an opportunity too good to pass up because our number 1 goal is to get the word out. Because of course we need to gather enough members to cover the basic costs for printing and shipping.
The result? Madness!
Start up x 2!
We are now in effect working with the growing pains of not one but two start ups! I am pretty sure we will look back on this time with a giggle (hopefully) and be pleased with how much we have achieved. But right now we have no time for reflection as it is just 7 days a week of getting stuff done!
Our packages are late
The journey of our September packages can be best described with these videos…
The last dash…
The intense disappointment…
So that is the latest, we will be running a live prize draw this weekend for all of our members – like us on our Facebook page for all the latest updates as they happen.
In the mean time we have our first downloadable and printable kids activity, a cute spot the difference in our Colombian design.
Our first charity donations
We have been in email contact with the lovely Jess from Safe Haven in Cambodia who is helping us liaise with Theary (not her real name) and her family. Each month our members get to choose between two causes in the country we feature and we give them a percentage of every membership.
This funds things like sending Theary to school, building enclosures for endangered turtles and tortoises, buying eye tests and glasses for kids, buying a computer in a school in the slums. Our aim once we are fully operational is to fund 24 of these small causes a year that our members choose between and vote for.
This is really the whole point of Travel Kids Club, to give our members the real experience of making a difference in the world. We have heard some heart warming feedback from our members parents from the first package. Kids as young as 6 carefully considering the causes and feeling like they are really contributing, which they are!
As we are so small right now the actual donations to the causes is small but this will grow as our membership does. But even the initial $50 which we are sending to Theary will be a huge help to them.
This family only eats two meals a day, they have no electricity, and the hardship they have experienced is immense. We will share more soon about them with their permission. But they have touched our hearts because they are just a beautiful warm family, with great love and smiles despite their troubles.
A massive than you to everyone who have subscribed your kids, volunteered, donated to the project and/or shared the Travel Kids Club project. We have been hearing about conversations all over the world and we are so grateful for all of your support. Even reading this update and being aware of our work helps us, so thank you!
A note for parents
If you are a parent of one of our members and you are not receiving our regular emails, please email us! The emails are the main way we are communicating with parents so please let us know and we will ensure you get our messages!!
Thanks and so much love!
