In our July package we featured a very special 5 year old kid hero, Tate Parker from Canada.
Tate has been collecting sleeping bags for homeless people. We think this is fantastic and so we wanted to share his full interview with you…
Q: Why do you collect sleeping bags?
Tate: Homeless people don’t have any houses and they are cold. And it was Christmas and Santa wasn’t going to find them so they wouldn’t get any presents.
Q: What does it mean to be homeless?
Tate: You don’t have a house so you can’t take a bath and then people get scared of you because you aren’t clean.
Q: What would you do with a magic wand?
Tate: I would make sure everyone has a birthday party. Especially kids who come here because they are getting away from war. They don’t have anything so they are kind of like homeless people.
Q: Who is your hero?
Tate: Spiderman is my hero because he battles the bad guys and always wins and makes jokes at the same time.
Q: Should kids try to help change the world?
Tate: Yes. Grown-ups listen to kids even though they are small and sometimes they forget what we need to do to help people.
Q: If other kids want to do something good, what should they do?
Tate: They can ask for help in the newspaper or get their teacher or mom or dad to help them plan something.
Q: What are you going to do next?
Tate: We wrote a book and if anyone buys it, I will use the money to have a party for kids who don’t have any money for birthday parties.
Also near Christmas, I will get more sleeping bags for homeless people because they are always cold in winter.
Note: A big thanks to Kids Are Heroes for helping us find Tate and other kids who are making a difference.
